Our wood signs are intended for Outdoor Use and are finished with a Log Cabin finish called PPG Proluxe (formerly called Sikkens Cetol). It's an expensive finish, but holds up better out in the sun and weather than anything else we've found . We take our time, and put on 3-4 coats of finish on the back of the signs and 6-7 on the front, letting each coat dry thoroughly. We have many customers with outdoor signs that are more than a dozen years old and still in service. With a little care, your sign should last a long, long time.
Though created with outdoor use in mind, our signs work perfectly well indoors too, and many, many customer chose to use them inside their homes or cabins.
Our wood signs are finished with PPG Proluxe
(was called Sikkens Cetol SRD)
in the 'natural' color and intended for Outdoor Use. It's an expensive finish, but holds up better outdoors than anything else we've found. Our Signs will last a long time before any maintenance is needed, but like all natural products, will eventually weather. When the sign begins to fade after a number of years, clean it and wipe on a new coat of Sikkens with a foam brush. You can usually buy a small sample can at a PPG/Sikkens dealer for a few dollars. We have refinished signs for customers that have been out in the weather without any care for a dozen years or more and they look great again after a little touchup and are ready to provide years more of service. The key to keeping any outdoor finish in good shape is to recoat it before it gets to be in rough shape. If you let it go too long, you can sand lightly with 220 sandpaper before re-coating.
